An apprenticeship is a real job with training.
You will be employed by a top local company and paid a wage. Skills Group will help you gain the trade-specific skills you need, with specialist training led by industry experts. Your trainers will develop learning plans with you and review your progress in the workplace.
Skills Group offers apprenticeships in:
- Care & Early Years
- Engineering & Automotive
- Hairdressing & Barbering
- Sport & Leisure
- Teaching & Education
An apprenticeship takes at least 12 months to complete. You will achieve:
- Technical Certificate, Diploma or NVQ in your chosen area
- Employability Skills Certificate
- Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT
- Health & Safety and First Aid certificates
You do not need any formal qualifications to become an apprentice. Most apprentices start after completing their GCSEs, A Levels, National Diplomas or other equivalent Level 2 or 3 qualifications.
From 1 April 2017, National Minimum Wage is £3.50 an hour for apprentices aged 16-18 and those aged 19+ in the first year of their apprenticeship. However, Skills Group encourages employers to pay more than this. You get paid for a full weeks’ work, which includes any day release for training, plus a minimum of 20 days’ holiday in addition to bank holidays.
