Beacon Medical Group are looking to take on three Customer Service apprentices to join their team.

The Apprentice’s Role

Beacon Medial Group’s patient advisor’s help signpost patients to the right service. The successful candidates will undertake a number of duties which will include working the reception desk and taking telephone calls.

You will be fully supported throughout your training by a team of dedicated skilled colleagues who will help you to provide good advice on a number of straightforward patient queries. They provide extensive training above and beyond what you receive on your apprenticeship and valuable knowledge that will set you up for a career in the NHS or other care related field. You will learn to multi task, and deal with a complex variety of patient issues.

Working hours: Depending on the practice, your working hours will be between 8am and 5pm. The surgery operates extended opening times as part of its business opening hours, there will be a requirement to cover extended hours on a rotation basis.

Wages: £105.00 per week based on a 30 hour week. Any additional hours worked above 30 hours per week will be paid at national minimum wage for the apprentices age per hour.

Holiday: Beacon Medical Group provide 25 days holiday a year plus bank holidays.

Beacon Medical Group is a 19 partner GP Practice with around 33,000 patients. Beacon Medical Group is the result of Ivybridge Medical Practice, Ridgeway Practice and Plym River Practice joining to create the Beacon Medical Group. They are the second largest practice in Devon and Cornwall and are now a thriving example of innovative primary care and are becoming leaders in their field.

They are an award winning practice and have each been providing clinical training for more than 20 years. They currently have just over 100 staff working across Plymouth and Ivybridge, as a growing practice there is always opportunity for forging a career here.

Past Apprentices

The Beacon Medical Group have invested in the apprenticeship programme over the last 3 years and have recently taken on many apprentices in their Ivybridge and Plympton branches.

There will be the opportunity to progress onto a level 3 qualification and ultimately onto permanent position within the company.

Skills Required

The post will require you to have maturity when handling confidential dataand have excellent attention to detail. You will have good verbal and written communication skills, knowledge and confidence in using a variety of IT applications and effective keyboard skills. In addition, you will have confidence in using the telephone, the ability to effectively prioritise workload and work to deadlines. Excellent organisational skills is also important.

Personal Qualities

You will be of a mature nature and have the genuine desire to succeed. You will be conscientious, kind and considerate to others and be empathetic when dealing with people. You have a strong work ethic and be able to work independently as well as being an effective team member. As at times you will the first point of contact for the practice, you be of smart appearance and very personable.

Prior Qualifications

GCSE pass grades A – C in both Maths and English is preferred. ICT would also be an advantage.

The Apprenticeship in Customer Service consists of:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Business Administration
  • Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT
  • Health and Safety Certificate
  • Emergency First Aid

Most aspects of your training will be delivered on-site by the employer, where you will gain all the skills, knowledge and experience to assist you in this role. Your duties will vary from day to day, and throughout your on-site learning process you will work closely with experienced members of staff.

You will have regular visits every six to eight weeks from your designated assessor, who will help you and monitor your progress throughout your apprenticeship programme.
