Churchview Surgery are looking for an enthusiastic worker to join the team in Plymstock.

The Apprentice’s Role

The successful candidate will help to signpost patients to the right service. You will undertake a number of duties working the reception desk and taking telephone calls. You will be fully supported throughout your training by a team of dedicated skilled colleagues who will help you to provide good advice on a number of straight forward patient queries. They provide extensive training above and beyond what you receive on your apprenticeship and valuable knowledge that will set you up for a career in the NHS or other care related field. You will learn to multi task, and deal with a complex variety of patient issues.

You will be required to undertake a number of administrative tasks such as having a thorough working knowledge of all practice clinical and administrative procedures and be able to work in accordance of written practice & reception protocols. You will be pulling/filing notes for surgeries and update as and when necessary and then filing post in medical records as and when necessary. You will be required to utilise the fax and photocopier machines as required and following the Information governance related protocols and be able to scan paperwork onto clinical system and workflow to appropriate person.

Working Hours: Depending on the Practice, will be between 8am – 5pm. The surgery operates extended opening times as part of its business opening hours, there will be a requirement to cover extended hours on a rotation basis.

Wages: £140.00 per week, based on a 40 hour week. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.

Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

The practice is bounded to the North by the A38, to the South by the coast, to the West by the Laira Estuary and Plymouth Sound and to the East by the village of Yealmpton. The Practice covers a large population and currently services over 12,000 patients.
We have been approved to provide General Practice Vocational and Medical Student Training. This enables qualified Doctors to work with us for up to 1 year under supervision prior to joining a Practice. Students from the Peninsula Medical School join us several times a year as part of their training. You may be asked if a Student may interview or examine you as part of their assessment by the Practice. We hope you would grant them this opportunity but respect your wishes should you decline.

There will be the opportunity to progress onto a level 3 qualification and ultimately onto permanent position within the Group.

Skills Required

As first point of contact for our patients, your focus will be on ensuring patients and visitors to Church View Surgery receive the best possible service, you will provide a professional, efficient and friendly reception service for all patients and other visitors and enjoy making a difference to every person who walks through the doors.

Personal Qualities

You will be of a mature nature and have the genuine desire to succeed. You will be conscientious, kind and considerate to others and be empathetic when dealing with people. You have a strong work ethic and be able to work independently as well as being an effective team member. As at times you will the first point of contact for the Practice, you be of smart appearance and very personable.

Prior Qualifications

GCSE pass grades (A – C) in both Maths and English. ICT would also be an advantage.

The Apprenticeship in Business Administration consists of:
◾Level 2 Diploma in Business Administration
◾Functional Skills in Maths and English
◾Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
◾Health and Safety Certificate
◾Emergency First Aid

All aspects of your training will be delivered on-site by the employer, where you will gain all the skills, knowledge and experience to assist you in this role. Your duties will vary from day to day, and throughout your on-site learning process you will work closely with experienced members of staff.

You will have regular visits every six to eight weeks from your designated assessor, who will help you and monitor your progress throughout your apprenticeship programme.
