A Plymouth based stationary and office supplies company are looking to expand their workforce by recruiting a customer service advisor to join their highly skilled and motivated team.

The Apprentice’s Role

This is a very varied role which will cover wide range of duties, including the processing of customer orders, maintaining a close relationship with customers, suppliers and delivery companies. You will also monitor customers’ accounts and process online sales as required.

The successful candidate will undertake duties that will include answering the phone and meeting clients face to face. You will be invoicing and crediting customers, purchasing, learning the companies specialist software system and word processing. You will also be using Excel spreadsheets, faxing, emailing, photocopying and shredding.

The ideal candidates will be managing customers’ satisfaction, post job assessment, purchase feedback and monitoring deliveries. It will entail maintaining ongoing communication with the customer, post work / sale, in relation to all their satisfaction, future requirements and any issues they are experiencing.

You will be supervised throughout your apprenticeship by a qualified member of staff, who will assist you with all the appropriate training required for this position.

Working Hours: The required working hours will be Monday to Friday 9am-5pm

Wages: £140.00 per week. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.

Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement, including bank holidays, will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

Past Apprentices

This is the first time Kenroy Thompson has taken on an apprentice through Skills Group so this is a great opportunity to make your mark on this new employer.

On completion of your level 2 qualification in customer services, the opportunity will be available for you to progress onto the advanced level 3 apprenticeship with the aim to secure long term employment with the employer on completion of the apprenticeship programme.

Skills Required

The ideal candidates must have the ability to deal with customers and colleagues on a friendly yet professional basis. You will be required to have good basic ICT knowledge as you will be using Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel plus other in-house software systems. A good telephone manner is essential as you will be the main point of contact for the majority of incoming calls.

You must be keen to learn and be part of a busy organisation and be able to handle the pressure that comes with this role. A willingness to learn and develop to undertake a number of other office based tasks is also required to ensure the smooth running of the business.

Personal Qualities

You must be honest, reliable, hardworking and have a genuine interest in customer services and office based work. An outgoing personality is also desirable to enable you to become part of an efficient, effective team.
You will need to have good timekeeping and attendance throughout your apprenticeship programme.

Prior Qualifications

GCSE grades A-C is desired.

The Apprenticeship in Customer Service consists of:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Customer Service
  • Functional Skills in Maths and English
  • Personal Learning and Thinking Skills
  • Health and Safety Certificate
  • Emergency First Aid

Most aspects of your training will be delivered on-site by the employer, where you will gain all the skills, knowledge and experience to assist you in this role. Your duties will vary from day to day, and throughout your on-site learning process you will work closely with experienced members of staff.

You will have regular visits every six to eight weeks from your designated assessor, who will help you and monitor your progress throughout your apprenticeship programme.
