Kitsons Solicitors are looking to take on an apprentice to join their busy team.

The Apprentice’s Role

The successful candidate will provide an efficient and effective clerical and administrative support service to the staff based in the Plympton office in accordance with the firm’s policies and procedures. The apprentice will be required to work in various areas and for different teams in order to develop skills, knowledge and experience in all aspects of administration. This will be achieved through on the job training and formal training sessions as necessary to establish knowledge and understanding.

You will be expected to attend regular meetings with the supervisor and external assessor and attend training sessions which will lead to an Apprenticeship Certificate in Business Administration.

You will efficiently undertake basic administration and clerical duties which may include data input, data extraction, photocopying, faxing and filing duties as directed. You will also be expected to type general client correspondence using BigHand digital dictation and deal with internal and external post and emails on a day to day basis.

Along with this, you will be expected to maintain accurate, timely and legible records as required, as well as keeping filing systems in line with the firm’s policies and procedures. You will also be be involved in collating information for reports, etc.

Part of your role will involve appropriate reception cover as and when required, where you will meet and greet clients and other visitors to the office as required and deal with queries, both face to face and via the telephone, as well as taking messages and passing them on to the relevant member of staff in an appropriate and timely manner.

Working Hours: You will be working Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 5pm, 37.5 hours per week.

Wages: £140.00 per week, based on a 40 hour week. Any hours worked above 40 hours per week will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage, depending on age.

Holiday: You will be entitled to 28 days holiday, including bank holidays, will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

Kitsons has previously taken on an apprentice with Skills Group and are keen to welcome another.

Whilst you will initially be working towards a level 2 qualification, there will be an opportunity for an apprentice with the right skills, ability and attitude to progress onto either a level 3 apprenticeship or a full time role within the company.

Skills Required

The duties and responsibilities of the role will particularly suit someone with an interest in working within a large and successful firm of solicitors. Desired professional skills include excellent general literacy and numeracy skills, experience and confidence with using a variety of IT programmes and systems; and excellent attention to detail with an eye for discrepancies.

You must also have a methodical, step by step approach, excellent verbal and written communication skills and confidence in working within a heavily regulated industry and performing duties in line with Data Protection and related legislation.

Personal Qualities

You will have a good degree of personal confidence as well as drive, focus and ambition with a desire to embark on an apprenticeship which could ultimately lead to a rewarding and challenging career. You will have a flexible and adaptable approach, with the ability to prioritise effectively and be able to multi task if necessary.

In addition, you will have the ability to self manage and take ownership for your own workload, be able to effectively contribute to the work of the team and be able to shoulder your share of the day to day responsibilities. You will have a strong desire to develop your personal and professional skills to a very high standard.

Prior Qualifications

Due to the nature of the position, a GCSE pass grade in Maths, English and ICT would be an advantage.

The Apprenticeship in Business Administration consists of:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Business Administration
  • Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT
  • Health and Safety Certificate
  • Emergency First Aid

Most aspects of your training will be delivered on-site by the employer, where you will gain all the skills, knowledge and experience to assist you in this role. Your duties will vary from day to day, and throughout your on-site learning process you will work closely with experienced members of staff.

You will have regular visits every six to eight weeks from your designated assessor, who will help you and monitor your progress throughout your apprenticeship programme.
