Marslands Accountants are looking to take on a business administration apprentice to join their small team.

The Apprentice’s Role

The successful candidate will be involved in a variety of duties which will include dealing with post and filing, answering the telephone, message taking and preparing for appointments;. You will also be dealing with emails and chasing clients for information, ordering stationery and maintaining Digita Practice Management.

Along with this, you will be setting up new client folders, marketing and networking which will include using social media and Mailchimp to assist with email newsletters. You will be updating the website, typing and dealing with spreadsheets. You will also be sorting invoices out into chronological order.

Although the vacancy is primarily administration, because they are a small, hands on practice the role is likely to have much wider variety. you will be mainly working alongside another staff member and the practice owner Michele, but there will be occasions where you will be working on your own in the office, under instruction, when others are out visiting clients etc.

Once administrative duties are in hand the successful candidate will potentially progress into the field of accounting after the first year if their work load allows.

Working Hours: 30 – 35 hours a week, Monday to Friday, 9.00am to 5.00pm.

Wages: £140.00 per week, based on a 40 hour week. Any overtime above 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.

Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement, including bank holidays, will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

Marslands Accounts have been established for over 10 years and the owner, Michele Marsland, is passionate about helping individuals and businesses through the complexities of accounting and taxation. They are a small practice based in Plympton.

Past Apprentices

This is the first time this employer has taken on an apprentice through Skills Group, so this is a great opportunity to make your mark on this employer.

Once having completed your level 2 apprenticeship, you will progress onto a level 3 qualification in business administration. This employer are keen to offer the right candidate a full-time position in the company.

Skills Required

In order to be successful, you will have good communication skills, written and verbal, be comfortable with IT and organised. You must be flexible and have good attention to detail.

Personal Qualities

The ideal candidate will be easily motivated and enthusiastic, responsible and able to work on own initiative and can follow clear instructions and guidance. You will be responsible, have social media skills, be confident on phone and trustworthy.

You will be reliable, accurate, punctual and honest. Along with, organised, sociable, flexible and good at prioritising.

Prior Qualifications

Maths and English GCSE at level A-C minimum, some Microsoft Office knowledge (Excel, Word, Outlook)

The Apprenticeship in Business Administration consists of:

  • Level 2 Diploma in Business Administration
  • Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT
  • Health and Safety Certificate
  • Emergency First Aid

Most aspects of your training will be delivered on-site by the employer, where you will gain all the skills, knowledge and experience to assist you in this role. Your duties will vary from day to day, and throughout your on-site learning process you will work closely with experienced members of staff.

You will have regular visits every six to eight weeks from your designated assessor, who will help you and monitor your progress throughout your apprenticeship programme.
