Bumble Bee’s have a fantastic opportunity for an apprentice to join their child care facilities based in Woolwell, Plymouth.
The Apprentice’s Role
You will carry out duties such as helping to organise playtime activities, and planning and assisting in projects for games and exercise sessions. You must make sure that the children’s safety and welfare is a priority at all times as well as making all activity sessions fun and enjoyable. You will also help to organise and prepare lunch and snacks for all the children.
Part of your daily duties will be to take part in art and craft activities, this will be a good opportunity to get to know the children and create a bond between each individual.
An important part of any company’s requirements is to make sure that all health and safety procedures are followed in the workplace at all times, and all the equipment is put away at the end of each day.
The successful candidate will be supervised throughout their apprenticeship by a fully trained member of staff, who will assist them in all aspects of your role for this position.
Working Hours: You will be required to work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, hours will vary depending on the rota.
Wages: £140.00 per week, based on a 40 hour week. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.
Their nurseries were originally established in 1995 with the site at Woolwell. They have continued to grow throughout Plymouth with the demand for quality child care provision.

This Plymouth based nursery is committed to providing quality child care and education for all children from 0-5 years as well as pre-school, after-school and holiday clubs for children aged 5-11. Bumble Bees Nursery's have been working with Skills Group for the past 4 years. During this time they have had 7 apprentices, most of which have completed their level 2 and progressed on to their advanced level 3 apprenticeships.

Through having completed your level 2 qualification you will have gained the skills in child care that you can use to maximise your future career. You will also have the opportunity to progress onto the advanced level 3 apprenticeship with Skills Group, in order to gain additional skills and knowledge, with the aim of full time employment in your chosen career.
The ideal candidate will need to have good communication skills when dealing with children and adults, and will need to be reliable and hardworking. You must have the ability to follow procedures from given instructions.
You must be able to work well as part of a team and use your own initiative when working alone.
The successful candidate must have great leadership and organisational skills, and be confident in everything you do. The ability to work under pressure, as well as good problem solving skills and flexibility, are also desirable.
The successful candidate must be reliable, hardworking and have the ability to learn and develop their child care skills. Good timekeeping and attendance are both very important for this position, as you may be required to start earlier on occasions.
Qualifications required for this role, include GCSE grades A-E in Maths and English or equivalent qualifications such as functional skills.
The Apprenticeship in Child Care includes:
Most aspects of the qualification and training will be delivered at your workplace where you will be supported throughout your training by your employer. You will have regular visits every six to eight weeks from your designated assessor who will help you, and monitor your progression throughout your apprenticeship.
As an additional qualification you will also achieve Emergency and Paediatric First Aid, and a Health and Safety Certificate, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
