The Apprentice’s Role
As an apprentice you will be involved in all bathroom projects working with their highly skilled installation team in Plymouth and the surrounding areas. You will be required to assist in the rip out and disposing of old units and bathroom suites and ensuring your working area is keep clean and free of debris throughout the projects.
You will assist in marking the location of pipes and cables and measuring out work areas. As part of your role you will be required to tile walls and floors which will include measuring and cutting as well as assisting in fitting sanitary ware products. You will learn a number of additional skills such as basic plumbing and carpentry, however your apprenticeship will specialise in wall and floor tiling.
Throughout your apprenticeship you will also follow building regulations to meet health and safety requirements.
Working Hours: The working week is Monday to Friday, 8am – 4pm. Due to the nature of the work and working to schedules to complete jobs, you may finish earlier on some occasions and later on others in order to complete work on time.
Wages: £140.00 per week. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

This is the first time Ivybridge Tile and Bathroom have invested in the apprenticeship programme.
After successful competition of your level 2 apprenticeship you will have the opportunity to progress onto the level 3 qualification and ultimately gain full time employment with the company.
In order to be successful, you will have excellent practical skills and the ability to follow technical drawings as well as the ability to mark out accurate measurements. You will be a good team player who posses excellent customer service skills and able to work to tight deadlines.
The ideal candidate will be a team player with good communication skills. You will be able to use your own initiative and have the ability to ask questions and support the team. You will be dedicated, respectful and reliable.
GCSE grades A-E is desired but not essential.
The Apprenticeship in Wall and Floor Tiling includes:
As part of your qualification, you will be expected to attend college for block release sessions. During these sessions you will learn about preparing different surfaces for application, how to use the correct adhesives and cutting and shaping tiles.
Whilst at our training centre, you will also have the opportunity to complete emergency first aid and a certified health and safety course.
As part of attending Skills Group for your apprenticeship we will also arrange for you to work towards achieving your CSCS on-line test giving you the opportunity to apply for your CSCS Card. This confirms that individuals working in the building environment have the necessary competence, to carry out site work with the employer.
You will be visited on-site every 6 to 8 weeks by a Skills Group assessor, who will assess your work and provide feedback on the tasks you have completed.
