A unique apprenticeship position has arisen with Lang and Potter, the potential candidate will be passionate about Carpentry specialising in Bench Joinery.
The Apprentice’s Role
The successful apprentice will be based at the new carpentry workshop in Plympton. Where you will be taught all aspects of bench carpentry while using specialist machinery and equipment such as table, chop and bench saws, chisels, hammers, mortise and tenons. You will be making bespoke furniture to set designs and a high level by request of clients and customers. You will need to be able to work at high demand and at times under pressure to achieve the final product.
Working Hours: Monday to Thursday, 07.30am – 4.30pm and Friday 7.30am to 12.30 with occasional Saturdays and optional overtime.
Wages: £140.00 per week. Any overtime above 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement, including bank holidays, will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.
Lang and Potter is a long established private family business owned company which is based in Plympton, Devon. Lang and Potter specialize in flooring, blinds, upholstery, curtains and soft furnishings. Lang and Potter pride themselves on bringing the clients ideas to life and making them walk away with the highest quality of product on the market.
Lang & Potter have a well established relationship with Skills Group and have recruited many apprentices in various different sectors, this includes Carpentry, Business Administration, Engineering. At present the carpentry section has 3 bench carpenters who are undertake their level 2 bench carpentry qualification.
After completing a level 2 in bench carpentry there maybe an opportunity to progress onto an advanced level 3 qualification.
You will need to be precise and accurate with your work while taking pride in the final product. You will need to be hardworking and passionate about the construction industry and an excellent team player.
You will need to be responsible and trustworthy at times and take direction well. You should be enthusiastic with excellent time keeping skills and a willing to succeed.
Qualifications are not essential however a good level of English and Maths would be desirable

Whilst at our training centre you will learn the skills and gain experience that will help you throughout your role. Part of your training will be knowledge and theory based, whilst the remainder will be practical.
As part of attending Skills Group for your apprenticeship we will also arrange for you to work towards achieving your CSCS on-line test giving you the opportunity to apply for your CSCS Card. This confirms that individuals working in the building environment have the necessary competence, to carry out site work with the employer.
In addition to your training, Skills Group will give you the opportunity to achieve your Emergency First Aid and Health and Safety certificates, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
