One of the UK’s largest children’s coaching companies, Premier Sport, is looking to appoint two Sports Coaches to support the already exciting range of sports that it offers.

The Apprentice’s Role

The role will be varied, where you will be delivering exciting and engaging coaching sessions that enthuse young people from the outset. You will develop the fundamental motor skills of young people to support their enjoyment, achievement and development whilst interacting with parents, relatives and venue staff in a professional manner at all times.

Along with this, you will be setting up and clearing activities, in addition to overseeing the maintenance of equipment. You will be travelling to various local schools, clubs and activity centres to coach sport.

A clean DBS check will be required for this role, along with a full, clean driving license.

Working Hours: 30-40 hours per week, varying between 8am and 8pm, Monday to Friday. Some weekend work may be required and can be negotiated with the employer.

Wages: £140.00 per week, based on a 40 hour week. Some travel expenses to be reimbursed, details to be discussed with the employer. Any hours worked above 40 hours per week will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage, depending on age.

Holiday: You will be entitled to 28 days holiday, including bank holidays, will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

This is an exciting opportunity for the apprentice to make their mark on this employer, who are really excited about taking on new apprentices to join their motivated team. There will additionally be outstanding progression opportunities for the right candidate over the next 12 months.

After completing your Level 2 qualification, you will have the opportunity to gain full-time employment with the company.

Skills Required

In order to be successful you will have a willingness to work towards achieving a Level 2 Supporting PE and School Sport Qualification, with the support of the employer.

Experience of working within a sports coaching context would be advantageous, however a genuine passion for sport is crucial. The ability to excite, enthuse and inspire young people will also be a characteristic that is sought in the successful candidate.

A willingness to learn will also be important, as the successful candidate will be required to undertake First Aid and Safeguarding training.

Personal Qualities

The successful candidate will enjoy sport and be passionate about coaching. You will have the ability to make coaching sessions fun, exhilarating and exhausting. An outgoing and bubbly personality will propel you to success.

In addition to an element of charisma, the successful applicant will need to be organised, flexible, a good team player and hard working.

Prior Qualifications

The successful apprentice must be willing to work towards a Level 2 Supporting PE and School Sport Qualification in an area of interest (support will be provided in achieving this). The role will also involve travelling to schools to deliver coaching sessions and so own transport is essential.

The Apprenticeship in Physical Education and School Sport includes:

  • Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Activity Leadership (QCF)
  • Level 2 Certificate in Supporting Learning in Physical Education and School Sport (QCF)
  • Functional Skills in Maths and English (Level 1)
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities
  • Emergency First Aid
  • Certified Health and Safety Course
  • Internet Safety / Safeguarding

Most aspects of your training will be delivered on-site by the employer at your workplace, and you will have regular visits every six to eight weeks by your designated assessor from Skills Group, who will monitor your progress throughout your apprenticeship programme.S
