A secondary school in the Redruth area are keen to appoint a ‘PE & School Sport Apprentice’ to assist in the delivery of secondary school PE lessons and extra-curricular activities.
The Apprentice’s Role
The successful applicant will be required to take on varied roles and duties which will include working with pupils under the guidance of the teacher to maximize pupil progress. This may be with individuals or small groups where you will be helping to motivate and inspire pupils to develop a lifelong passion for physical activity. You will be looking after all sports equipment and ensure it is fit for use, in the right place and in good order and at request of teaching staff you will be asked to put out/up equipment required for a lesson. Alongside this you will be assisting in the coordination of school sports fixtures and developing the provision of lunchtime and after school sports clubs. You will be expected to maintain all sports equipment so there is sufficient resources for all lessons and pupils and will be officiating at school sports events and assisting in the facilitation of competitions between local schools.
Please note that some additional administrative duties and a degree of flexibility will be required as part of this role.
Working Hours: You will be working 30-40 hours per week, ranging between the hours of 8am-6pm Monday to Friday. Specific shifts to be negotiated with the school.
Wages: £140.00 per week, based on a 40 hour week. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

Experience of working within a sporting or educational context would be advantageous, however a determination to see young people succeed is of the utmost importance. Strong organisational, communication and team work skills will form a key element of the position, with the successful candidate anticipated to regularly utilise their skills in forward planning and initiative.
An ability to motivate and inspire young people in striving toward their full potential will form an essential part of this role, with the ability to plan and adapt coaching sessions to keep them fun, engaging and exciting being of paramount importance. Individuals with National Governing Body (NGB) qualifications are sought, however further training can be provided in this area for the right candidate.
The successful applicant will be an outgoing, charismatic and innovative individual who has a natural infinity in engaging and enthusing students across the school. Flexibility, good timekeeping and an optimistic approach will all be traits sought in candidates who can act as a professional role model at all times.
This role will suit an individual who is organised and hard working, as they work to support all areas of the PE Department. Outstanding communication skills will form a key part of this role in developing strong working relationships with parents, schools and other external partners.
No formal qualifications are required as full training will be provided. It would however be advantageous for the successful applicant to have an interest in the sport and education sectors, in addition to previous coaching experience or activity leadership.
The Apprenticeship in Physical Education and School Sport includes:

Most aspects of your training will be delivered on-site by the employer at your workplace, and you will have regular visits every six to eight weeks by your designated assessor from Skills Group, who will monitor your progress throughout your apprenticeship programme.
