A secondary school in central Plymouth are keen to appoint a school sports apprentice to assist in the delivery of school PE lessons and extra-curricular activities. This position will be available in September.
The Apprentice’s Role
The successful candidate will support pupils in classroom lessons and on a one-to-one basis as required. This is a unique opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of young people by developing sports participation and positive experiences within a school environment. This is an exciting opportunity to join an organisation which has unique progression opportunities within the education sector and currently participates in the Schools Direct programme. Formal training will be provided to support development and progression opportunities of the successful candidate.
The role will be varied but duties will include assisting PE Teaching Staff in sports lessons and inspiring pupils through fun sports-based activities during lunchtimes, breaks and after school. You will also be involved in setting up local competitions and games for various sports and school groups, along with additional administrative duties. A degree of flexibility will be required to fulfil this role.
Working Hours: This roles working hours vary between 30-40 hours per week, Monday to Friday between the hours of 8am to 6pm. Specific shifts will be negotiated with the school.
Wages: £140.00 per week, based on a 40 hour week. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

Experience of working within a sporting or educational context would be advantageous, however a determination to see young people succeed is of the utmost important. An ability to motivate and inspire others in striving towards their full potential is essential.
It would be advantageous for the successful applicant to have an interest in the Sport and Education sectors, in addition to previous coaching experience or activity leadership.
An outgoing and motivating individual is required to engage and enthuse pupils across the school. The successful applicant will need to be organised, flexible, a good team player and hard working.
No formal qualifications are required as full training will be provided.

Most aspects of your training will be delivered on-site by the employer at your workplace, and you will have regular visits every six to eight weeks by your designated assessor from Skills Group, who will monitor your progress throughout your apprenticeship programme.
