Every month we’re selecting two sectors and awarding apprentices who go above and beyond in their on and off-the-job training. February’s sectors are Engineering & Automotive and Teaching & Education.
Jenny Jackson and Libbie Herbert, both Teaching & Education apprentices with Cheltenham & North Tewkesbury School Sports Network, have been jointly awarded Apprentice of the Month for their outstanding achievements in the workplace.
We had a quick chat with the duo to find out more about their apprenticeships…
What made you choose an apprenticeship?
J: After completing a course in Sports Coaching at Hartpury College, I wanted a more hands-on approach to learning and was keen to get into the world of sports and coaching. This apprenticeship was perfect for me.
L: I didn’t want to go to university straight away, but I did want to get experience in the career I’m considering for the future.
What are your career ambitions?
J: I’m hoping to progress on to the Level 3 apprenticeship, then the Level 5 in Coaching.
L: I want to go to university and potentially become a teacher.
How do you rate Skills Group, and would you recommend an apprenticeship?
J: I’m glad I chose Skills Group; my assessor, Dave, has been really supportive – I look forward to him coming in to see how I’ve progressed. I would definitely recommend an apprenticeship; I believe a different, more hands-on learning style is better for some people – like me.
L: The experience you get from an apprenticeship is great, and I’ve really enjoyed earning while learning with Skills Group.
