Fabrication and Welding Apprentice

Fabrication and welding company in Plymstock are looking to take on an apprentice to join their highly skilled and professional team.

The Apprentice’s Role

The successful apprentice will spend most of their time working on-site assisting with the installation of items across the region. You will develop skills in TIG/MIG/MMA welding, plasma cutting, grinding, drilling and bending. Other duties will include metal folding, polishing, basic machining and pressing. Some of the machines that you will be using are guillotines, band saws and lathes.

The apprentice will also be involved in dealing with deliveries, loading equipment and materials and keeping the workshop tidy and clean. There may be occasions when you will need to assist with customers and clients who contact the firm either in person or over the phone.

Working Hours: The required working hours will be 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Wage: £140.00 per week, based on a 40 hour week. Wage can increase depending on skills and experience. Any additional hours worked over the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the national minimum wage depending on age.

Holiday: 30 days holiday entitlement, including bank holidays, will be paid each year during the course of your apprenticeship.

Their Plymouth fabricating facility and showroom is situated in a purpose built unit of 6000 sq. ft. Due to high demand they have also opened a showroom to cover the Torbay area to give customers another location to view the high quality products that they offer. 100% Stainless Ltd have been trading for over 14 years but they have been fabricating with stainless steel and non-ferrous metals for the commercial and public sector for over 27 years.

The company have a dedicated team of 15 staff, which includes designers, welders, fabricators and installers. They each pride themselves on quality and providing a friendly and professional service. All of their work undergoes a strict quality control process to ensure that every item that leaves their premises is finished to the highest possible standards. They also have two fully trained and insured installation teams ready to install projects, giving full respect at all times to your home and property.

Past Apprentices

100% Stainless Ltd have had several apprentices in the past and the majority of these are still at the firm. They also have a number of apprentices who are due to complete their Level 2 qualifications.

On completion of your Level 2 qualification in Fabrication and Welding, you will have the opportunity to progress onto a Level 3 apprenticeship and secure full-time employment with the company.

Skills Required

They are looking for an individual with a professional manner who can speak to clients and possesses a genuine interest in Engineering.

The successful apprentice will have an aptitude for learning this trade and have a good understanding of Maths. The apprentice must also be willing to undertake physical work and maintain good concentration levels at all times.

Personal Qualities

In order to be successful you must have an eye for detail. You must also have a keen interest in engineering.

Prior Qualifications

Qualifications required for this role include GCSE’s grades D or above in Maths and English, or equivalent qualifications.

The Level 2 Apprenticeship in Performing Manufacturing Operations consists of:

  • Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Fabrication and Welding Engineering
  • Level 2 Diploma in Engineering Technology
  • Functional Skills in Maths, English and ICT (Level 1)
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities
  • Emergency First Aid
  • Certified Health & Safety Course
  • Internet Safety / Safeguarding

Attendance is required for one day per week at the Skills Group Training Centre. Other aspects of your training will be carried out on-site, where you will have regular visits every 6 to 8 weeks from your designated assessor to monitor your progress throughout your apprenticeship.

Whilst at the training centre you will learn new hand skills, welding techniques and a variety of fabricating methods under the supervision of your Skills Group Assessor. Learning all these skills will benefit you on your return to your employer.
