Maintenance and Installation Engineering Apprentice

A Paignton based roller shutter and security gate firm wish to take on an apprentice to join their small and busy firm. The apprentice will carry out installation, servicing and maintenance work on mechanical and electrical door systems across Devon.
The Apprentice’s Role
The work will involve installing, servicing and repairing security barriers, doors and shutters. This will include some basic welding, fabricating of new parts, assembly work and basic manufacturing jobs. The role will also include travelling across the South West region.
You will be learning and developing skills to resolve basic electrical faults and issues. The work involves shadowing and assisting existing maintenance staff both at the workshop and on site. The apprentice will be asked occasionally to work extended hours if a job is further away or of an urgent nature.
Other aspects of the job will include preparing the site ready for installation, sorting out tools, equipment and materials, dealing with customers, checking job specifications and tidying up after the work is done. Adhering to strict timekeeping and professional working standards at all times is necessary as well. Helping complete paperwork and logging the work that has been done would also be expected.
Working Hours: The required working hours will be 8.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday.
Wages: £140.00 per week, based on a 40 hour week. Any additional hours worked over the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the national minimum wage depending on age.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement, including bank holidays, will be paid each year during the course of your apprenticeship.

AM Doors Ltd have been in business for nearly 30 years providing a professional and prompt service across Devon. They have three teams of fitters and engineers working across the region dealing with new and existing door systems.
The company install and service grills, shutters, industrial doors, garage doors and automated door systems. The business caters for both domestic as well as commercial customers offering guarantees and after care service.
The company has had one apprentice with them before who completed a level 2 engineering course and worked there for nearly 10 years. The firm wish to take on another young person to build on the success of the first apprentice.
On completion of your level 2 qualification, there will be an opportunity to progress onto a level 3 apprenticeship and long term employment.
The apprentice will need to be very hard working, punctual and technically minded. You will also need a good eye for detail, good problem solving and the capability to take apart and re-assemble equipment.
A genuine interest in engineering and mechanical tasks is desired. Good numeracy and literacy skills are preferred as well as good communication skills.
You must be trustworthy, reliable and keen to finish your qualification to a good standard.
GCSE grades A-E in Maths and English is desired.

Most aspects of your training will be delivered on-site by the employer, where you will gain all the skills, knowledge and experience to assist you in this role. Your duties will vary from day to day, and throughout your on-site learning process you will work closely with experienced members of staff.
Attendance is required at our training centre for one day per week, and you will have regular visits every six to eight weeks from your designated assessor who will monitor your progress throughout your training.
