M & S Windows are looking to take on a fenestration apprentice to join their team in Newton Abbot.
The Apprentice’s Role
The successful apprentice will join the window fabrication team in their busy workshop to fabricate window and conservatory frames to specific designs and specifications. You will be working to completion deadlines and schedules set out each day and week, to deliver the product in time and to the high standard required.
You will develop into becoming an integral member of the team and this comes from you being focused and disciplined with your own work and helping the team to meet their requirements. You will be based at the premises at Decoy Industrial estate in Newton Abbot. As a fabricator, you will learn each aspect within the workplace required to deliver quality windows and door frames to the customer on time and to the highest standard. You will work with up-to-date, modern technology during each process.
You will learn different ways on how to use different materials and how to manufacture and assemble all window hardware in readiness to fit and install. Throughout your apprenticeship you will be supervised and trained by a qualified member of staff, who will show you all the necessary skills and procedures to gain the experience to do specialist duties as well as other technical fabrication tasks.
Working Hours: The working hours will be 39.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.
Wages: £140.00 per week, based on a 40 hour week. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.
M & S Windows are a double glazed window and door manufacturer based in Newton Abbot. They manufacture and supply UPVC windows, doors and conservatories to the surrounding area of Torquay. Their main supply areas are Torbay, Torquay, Paignton, Brixham, Newton Abbot, Exeter and Plymouth.
Because they are window and door manufacturers they are able to meet the customers' requirements quickly and efficiently without having to wait for other double glazing companies to supply them. They are a local company who manufacture products on-site and offer quality control from start to finish. They can offer products designed to your taste and requirements and they are a Fensa registered company.
M & S Windows has previously supported many apprentices through Skills Group and are offering another great opportunity to the right candidate.
You will be supported throughout your Level 2 qualification by your employer and following successful completion, you will have the option to then progress to your Level 3 qualification.
You will have a job at the end of your apprenticeship as your employer is fully investing in you for the future growth of the business by offering this opportunity. You will then have the chance to progress along a variation of career paths within the fenestration industry.
You should have a keen interest in construction and the manufacturing of products to a high specification. This will require you to have a keen eye for detail, pride in your work and the ability to work well on your own as well as your own intitative. If you are self-motivated and organised you will benefit greatly from this working environment. The work can also be physically demanding at times so a good level of fitness would be advantageous.
You must be able to work in an environment that can, at times, be very busy and still deliver a quality product. A good knowledge of maths would be beneficial, in order to be comfortable when working to measurements from orders to manufacture products to a high specification for the customer.
Qualifications required for this role include GCSE’s grades A-E in Maths and English, or equivalent qualifications.

Most aspects of your training will be delivered on-site by the employer, and you will have regular site visits every six to eight weeks from your designated assessor, who will monitor your progress throughout your apprenticeship programme.
Skills Group will also help you to achieve Emergency First Aid and a Health and Safety Certificate, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
You will also be supported by Skills Group to complete your CSCS online test, to achieve your CSCS Card which enables you to carry out site work, if required.
