Vehicle Fitting Apprentice

This busy garage based in the centre of Plymouth require an apprentice mechanic to carry out services such as tyre and exhaust fitting together with MOT repairs and general servicing and automotive maintenance for all makes of vehicles.

The Apprentice’s Role

The right candidate will need to be a honest reliable and motivated individual with a genuine interest in motor vehicle mechanics. The apprentice will also need the ability to work effectively with other members of the current small team in order to meet the companies wide variety of needs in this fast paced environment.

This role will include assisting with the bulk of their business which is the replacement of tires and exhausts. You will be supervised at all times by a fully qualified member of staff who will introduce you to the specialist tools and equipment involved in this role,ranging from basic hand tools to power tools and measuring equipment including tyre changing machines.

You must follow all company health and safety procedures whilst in the work place. This includes excellent house keeping and wearing the correct personal protective equipment at all times.

Working Hours: The working hours will be 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5.30pm. This may vary slightly depending on workload.

Wage: £140.00 per week, based on a 40 hour week. Any additional hours worked above 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage, depending on age.

Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement, including bank holidays, paid each year during the course of your apprenticeship.

Need a Tyre Ltd is a well established family business which has been trading for over 5 years. Based in the centre of Plymouth the small team currently consists of two members of staff who have built a reputation for fast and efficient tyre and exhaust fitting, as a while you wait service.

Past Apprentices

This employer has previously supported apprentices in the work place and is able to offer the required environment to allow the apprentice to develop their skills and progress as apprentices.

Skills Required

The ideal candidate will require good hand skills and a genuine keen interest in developing their skills in motor vehicle mechanics. You will be motivated and keen to learn and enjoy getting hands on in the work place.

The successful apprentice will have good coordination skills and a focused approach to the job in hand. Excellent time keeping and attendance are also a must.

You must also have good communication skills as you will need to work as part of a team as well as on your own using your initiative.

Personal Qualities

The successful candidate will need to be reliable, honest and motivated towards your own career progression with a genuine interest in both the motor vehicle repair industry and electronics.

Good time keeping and a reliable nature is a must with a genuine enthusiasm to learn new skills.

Prior Qualifications

Qualifications required for this role include GCSE grades A–E (9-3) in Maths and English, or the equivalent qualifications such as functional skills.

The Level 2 Apprenticeship in Vehicle Fitting Operations will include:

  • Level 2 Vehicle Fitting Principles (VRQ)
  • Level 2 Diploma Vehicle Fitting Principles (QCF)
  • Functional Skills English, Maths & ICT
  • Employment Rights and Responsibilities
  • Emergency First Aid
  • Certified Health & Safety Course
  • Internet Safety / Safeguarding

Most aspects of your training will be delivered on-site by the employer, where you will gain all the skills, knowledge and experience to assist you in this role. Your duties will vary from day to day, and throughout your on-site learning process you will work closely with experienced members of staff.

Attendance is required at our training centre for one day per week, and you will have regular visits every six to eight weeks from your designated assessor who will monitor your progress throughout your training.
