Coles HD Salon are looking for a hairdressing apprentice to join their friendly team in Estover Business Park, Plymouth.
The Apprentice’s Role
Your duties will include booking appointments, shampooing, conditioning, drying, styling, mixing and applying hair colouring. You will study hairdressing topics such as hair and skin testing, the effects of chemicals on hair and skin, and the principles of hair colour selection. There is also the option to learn about promoting the products within the salon for clients to purchase.
Part of the day to day operations of any salon is to make sure that the work stations and all areas within the salon are kept clean and tidy, to ensure the salon runs efficiently. Answering the telephone and giving great customer service to all old and new clients is also a very important aspect of a successful business, so the successful candidate will gain the skills to complete all these duties to a very high standard.
You will be supervised throughout your training by a skilled member of the team, where you will be made aware of all the company processes and procedures including health and safety in the workplace.
Working Hours: You will be working 40 hours per week between Tuesday and Saturday.
Wages: £140.00 per week, based on a 40 hour week. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

Once having completed your level 2 qualification in hairdressing, there will be an opportunity to work towards an advanced level 3 apprenticeship to further enhance your skills. By gaining these additional skills and knowledge, it will present you with greater opportunities on completion of the apprenticeship training.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work your way through the full apprenticeship training to become a fully qualified stylist.
The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to work well in a team, using their own initiative when required. Building good relationships with clients is also a vital part of a successful salon so excellent interpersonal skills are required.
Candidates will need to have a genuine passion for hairdressing in order to succeed in this exciting position, with a focused approach on all the duties that you carry out. Good timekeeping and attendance are also very important for this role.
The successful candidate will need to be polite and courteous with a pleasant personality to interact well with clients and colleagues. You must be able to understand instructions in order to assist the stylists throughout the day, gaining the knowledge and skills to be successful in your chosen career.
You will need to have enthusiasm and a desire to learn new skills, in order to progress through your training and become a fully qualified stylist.
Qualifications required for this role include A-E in English and Maths or the equivalent, for example functional skills.

All aspects of the qualification will be delivered on-site and you will have regular visits every 2 to 4 weeks from your designated assessor from Skills Group, who will monitor your progression throughout your apprenticeship.
As an additional qualification, Skills Group will help you achieve your Emergency First Aid and Health and Safety Certificate, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
