Daroma Hair and Beauty are looking to take on a hairdressing apprentice to join their salon.
The Apprentice’s Role
The right candidate needs to be motivated and enthusiastic to assist stylists in delivering constantly high levels of service and to ensure that company policies and procedures are carried out. As part of your role you will participate in training sessions and work towards timely completion of your level 2 qualification in hairdressing. The candidate will be responsible to the Salon Manager, and will also work very closely with other stylists.
You will be assisting stylists in ensuring that all clients are given the highest levels of customer service with special attention to comfort and friendliness. You will also generate and promote a professional working atmosphere and assist stylists in advising clients in all aspects of services available, providing information on Aveda products, tools and equipment available for retail purchase. You will be making sure that work stations are kept clean and tidy at all times.
By assisting the Salon Manger and the stylists, you will gain the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to help you to progress in this exciting industry. You will be supervised by a fully qualified member of staff throughout your training, and you must follow health and safety procedures in the salon.
Working Hours: You will be working 30-40 hours per week, Monday – Saturday. You will also be expected to attend night school with the employer, one night per week.
Wages: £140.00 per week, based on a 40 hour week. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

The salon is focused on delivering the best training programme for their apprentices and supply each apprentice with an individual training plan which Skills Group support.
Daroma has worked with Skills Group for the past 3 years and have recruited and successfully trained several apprentices. The salon is happy to discuss the training plan with individual students to meet their needs. Training is delivered in-house and via day release to Skills Group's training academy in Newton Abbot which is situated very close to the salon.
Through having completed the level 2 qualification in hairdressing, you will then have the opportunity to progress onto the advanced level 3 apprenticeship.
With the experience and the skills you have gained, you can use these to maximise the opportunities to further your career at the end of your apprenticeship programme.
The successful apprentices could also look at progressing onto a barbering qualification.
The ideal candidate will have good organisational skills, and be confident for this role. The ability to work under pressure, good problem solving skills, and flexibility would also be an advantage.
You must be able to work well within a team and on your own. You must have good time keeping and attendance as reliability in the salon is key.
The successful candidate needs to be familiar with current trends within the hairdressing and fashion industry. You will need to be highly motivated and enthusiastic about hairdressing with a friendly personality, to interact efficiently with customers and colleagues.
You must be motivated and passionate to undertake this exciting opportunity, and progress in your chosen career.
Qualifications desirable for this role include A-E in English and Maths or the equivalent such as Functional Skills, but not essential as having the enthusiasm and a willingness to succeed are more important.
The Apprenticeship in Hairdressing includes:
Some aspects of the qualification will be delivered on-site and you will have regular visits every 2 to 4 weeks from your designated assessor from Skills Group, who will monitor your progression throughout your apprenticeship.
As part of your apprenticeship you will be expected to attend college one day per week, where you will improve upon your knowledge and practical skills.
As an additional qualification, Skills Group will help you achieve your Emergency First Aid and Health and Safety Certificate, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
