Hair at Gemma B are looking to recruit a hairdressing apprentice to join their busy salon in Paignton.
The Apprentice’s Role
Duties are likely to include meeting and greeting clients, shampooing, removing colour, conditioning, drying and styling hair. You will benefit from on and off the job training and you will learn hairdressing skills that you will be able to put into practice. This will help to build your confidence to use your imagination when creating hairdressing masterpieces.
You will be assisting stylists in ensuring that all clients are given the highest levels of customer service with special attention to comfort and friendliness. You will also generate and promote a professional working atmosphere and assist stylists in advising clients in all aspects of services available, including advising clients of all products, tools and equipment available for retail purchase.
Working Hours: You will be working 37-40 hours per week from Tuesday to Saturday.
Wages: £148.00 – £160.00 per week, based on 40 hours. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

The salon has been trading successfully for two years offering a wide range of services and well situated in a populated area of Paignton. Staff are a mixture of employed and self-employed and there are seven stylists including Gemma, the salon owner and Sarah who is a Barber as well as Salon Manager. The salon is spacious with a modern feel and will be undergoing a face-lift at Easter time to increase the number of work stations.
The salon currently has one apprentice who will be qualified very soon.
For the right candidate, there will be the opportunity to progress onto further training/qualifications such as barbering and hairdressing at level 3.
The successful apprentice will need to be enthusiastic about training, have a creative flair and a genuine passion for the hairdressing industry. Building good relationships with clients is a vital part of a successful salon so excellent interpersonal skills are required.
The ideal apprentice will have a smart appearance with great communication skills as they will be dealing with clients face to face and over the phone.
The successful candidate will be friendly with the ability to provide good customer service. You will be reliable, proactive, flexible and passionate about hairdressing.
If you do not hold A-C GCSE grades in Maths and English you will work towards Functional Skills alongside the level 2 apprenticeship.

Most aspects of the qualification will be delivered on-site and you will have regular visits every 2 to 4 weeks from your designated assessor from Skills Group, who will monitor your progression throughout your apprenticeship.
As an additional qualification Skills Group will help you achieve your Emergency First Aid and certified Health and Safety Certificate, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
