Images Hair and Nail Salon, based in Plymouth, is looking to take on a hairdressing apprentice.
The Apprentice’s Role
The successful candidate will be involved in a variety of duties, which will enable you to learn new skills and gain the necessary knowledge in order to successfully complete your apprenticeship.
Your duties will include booking appointments, shampooing, conditioning, drying and styling hair, and mixing and applying hair colouring. You will study hairdressing topics such as hair and skin testing, the effects of chemicals on hair and skin, and the principles of hair colour selection.
You will also be required to attend college sessions weekly to undertake additional training which will enhance your knowledge and skills.
Working Hours: You will be working 40 hours per week, Tuesday – Saturday.
Wages: £140.00 per week. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.
This salon has recently been taken over by new owners. They have a mixture of new and existing staff and are looking to build upon their team with a new apprentice. They use a range of professional products including Shellac and Schwarzkopf, which now includes Fibreplex.
This is the first time that Images Hair and Nail Salon have taken on an apprentice through Skills Group. This is a fantastic opportunity for the right person to develop their skills and progress towards their chosen career in hairdressing.
Through having completed the level 2 qualification in hairdressing, you will then have the opportunity to progress onto the advanced level 3 apprenticeship.
With the experience and the skills you have gained, you can use these to maximise the opportunities to further your career at the end of your apprenticeship programme.
The successful applicant could also look at progressing onto a barbering qualification.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and be able to work well in a team. They will need to have a genuine passion for hairdressing to succeed in this exciting position, with a focused approach on all the duties that you carry out.
Good timekeeping and attendance are also very important for this role.
The successful candidate will need to be polite and courteous with a pleasant personality to interact well with clients and colleagues. You must be able to follow instructions in order to assist the stylists throughout the day, this will help you to gain the knowledge and skills to be successful in your chosen career.
You must also have the enthusiasm and desire to learn new skills, and to progress through your training in order to become a fully qualified stylist at the end of your apprenticeship programme.
Qualifications required for this role include A-E in English and Maths or the equivalent, for example functional skills.

Some aspects of the qualification will be delivered on-site and you will have regular visits every 2 to 4 weeks from your designated assessor from Skills Group, who will monitor your progression throughout your apprenticeship.
You will be required to attend our hair academy one day per week, usually on Mondays, in order to develop your knowledge and skills. Whilst at the training centre you will have the opportunity to hone your creative flair and master new techniques.
As an additional qualification, Skills Group will help you achieve your Emergency First Aid and Health and Safety Certificate, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
