Hairdressing Apprentice

Ruffles Hair Design are looking to recruit an apprentice to join their busy salon of qualified stylists.

The Apprentice’s Role

You will also be involved in booking appointments, shampooing, conditioning, drying and styling hair, and mixing and applying hair colouring. You will study hairdressing topics such as hair and skin testing, the effects of chemicals on hair and skin, and the principles of hair colour selection – there’s also the option to learn about promoting products, perming, and working with different hair types.

You will be assisting stylists in ensuring that all clients are given the highest levels of customer service with special attention to comfort and friendliness. You will also generate and promote a professional working atmosphere and assist stylists in advising clients regarding all aspects of services available, including products, tools and equipment available for retail purchase. You will also make sure that work stations are kept clean and tidy at all times.

You will also be required to attend college sessions weekly to undertake additional training which will enhancing your knowledge and develop your skills.

Working Hours: The successful apprentice will be working 37 hours per week, Monday to Saturday. Specific shifts will be agreed between the apprentice and the employer.

Wages: £140.00 per week. Any hours worked above 40 hours per week will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage, depending on age.

Holiday: You will be entitled to 28 days holiday, including bank holidays, will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

The team at Ruffles prides themselves on providing a specialist service in all areas of modern, creative techniques and have regular training in all aspects of cutting and colouring, whilst maintaining the highest quality of work at all times.

Past Apprentices

The last apprentice at Ruffles has successfully qualified and the salon are now looking for a new apprentice to join their team.

For the right candidate, they will be the opportunity to progress onto the level 3 apprenticeship in Hairdressing.

Skills Required

The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to work well in a team, and be able to portray a positive friendly attitude to customers at all times. Building good relationships with clients is a vital part of a successful salon so excellent interpersonal skills are required.

Personal Qualities

Excellent communication, high standards of hygiene and appearance and a keen team player are essential for any salon apprentice, and you will learn how to demonstrate these consistently to ensure that you promote a positive image at all times. Candidates will also need to be enthusiastic about training, have a creative flair and a genuine passion for the hairdressing industry.

Prior Qualifications

No prior qualifications are required, just a passion for hairdressing and a willingness to learn.

The Apprenticeship in Hairdressing includes:

  • Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Hairdressing
  • Functional Skills in Maths and English
  • Emergency First Aid
  • Certified Health and Safety Course
  • Internet Safety / Safeguarding

Most aspects of the qualification will be delivered on-site and you will have regular visits every 2 to 4 weeks from your designated assessor from Skills Group, who will monitor your progression throughout your apprenticeship.

You will also have the opportunity to attend college one day per week in order to hone your creative flair and develop your knowledge and understanding of the hairdressing industry.

As an additional qualification, Skills Group will help you achieve your Emergency First Aid and Health and Safety Certificate, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.

We recognise that salons are becoming more reliant on technology to communicate with their clients, and to promote their salon services, styling team and latest offers, and our apprenticeship training includes an ICT element that enables learners to develop their skills to use social networks in a safe and professional way.
