Salon at No 6 are looking to take on two hairdressing apprentice to join their friendly team in Plympton.
The Apprentice’s Role
The successful apprentice needs to be motivated and enthusiastic to assist stylists in delivering constantly high levels of service, and to ensure that company policies and procedures are carried out. As part of your duties you will participate in training sessions and work towards timely completion of your level 2 qualification in hairdressing. The apprentice will be responsible to the salon manager, and will also work very closely with other stylists.
Your duties will include meeting and greeting clients, scheduling salon appointments and dealing with telephone enquiries. You will also be carrying out shampooing and conditioning services for clients, and will be trained to mix and apply colour treatments under supervision.
You will generate and promote a professional working atmosphere and assist stylists in advising clients of all aspects of services available, including advising clients of all products, tools and equipment available for retail purchase. You will be making sure that work stations are kept clean and tidy at all times. By assisting the salon manager and stylists, you will gain the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to help you to progress in this exciting career opportunity.
Working Hours: The successful candidate will be working 40 hours per week (5days) between Monday – Saturday. The salon is open for one late night per week until 8.00pm. Shift patterns will be arranged at the start of the apprenticeship.
Wages: £140.00 per week, based on a 40 hour week. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.
Salon at No 6 is a modern, friendly salon which has been established as a salon in this location for a number of years. The owner of the salon is an experienced trainer assessor who has successfully trained many apprentices. The salon attracts a varied clientele of both locals and customers from all areas of Plymouth.
At Salon at No 6 their focus is to provide a huge range of services with the highest levels of customer satisfaction. They have a dynamic team who are customer focused and great stylists. The salon offers the full range of hairdressing services and beauty therapy. They use only top quality products such as Affinage and b.Red. The products are of the highest quality and are used in colouring and conditioning, along with a full range of retail products to follow up with at home.
Salon at No 6 recruit approximately two apprentices per year, most of whom not only have completed their apprenticeships but have also remained in the salon.
Once you have completed the level 2 qualification, you will have the opportunity to work towards an advanced level 3 and gain full-time employment with the salon.
The successful candidate will need to be enthusiastic about training, have a creative flair and a genuine passion for the hairdressing industry. Building good relationships with clients is a vital part of a successful salon so excellent interpersonal skills are required.
You will have excellent communication skills, high standards of hygiene and appearance. You will be a keen team player as this is essential for any salon apprentice, and you will learn how to demonstrate this consistently to ensure that you promote a positive image at all times.
The successful apprentice needs to be familiar with current trends within the hairdressing and fashion industry. You will need to be highly motivated and enthusiastic about hairdressing with a friendly personality, to interact efficiently with customers and colleagues.
Qualifications desired for this role include A-E in English and Maths or the equivalent such as functional skills, but not essential as having the enthusiasm and a willingness to succeed are more important.

All aspects of the qualification will be delivered on-site and you will have regular visits every 2 to 4 weeks from your designated assessor from Skills Group, who will monitor your progression throughout your apprenticeship.
As an additional qualification, Skills Group will help you achieve your Emergency First Aid and Health and Safety Certificate, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
