Sarah’s Barber Shop are looking to recruit a barber to join their busy team in Crediton.
The Apprentice’s Role
This Apprenticeship is for those interested in cutting and styling the hair of all clients. You’ll also learn about (and be tested on) other issues related to barbering, like hygiene, disposing of chemicals and working in a team.
On this Apprenticeship, you’ll learn how to give client consultations, cut hair, trim and shape facial hair and shampoo and condition hair and scalp.
If you have a passion for hairdressing or barbering then this is a fantastic opportunity for the motivated apprentice to take up this position. You will carry out a wide range of duties such as, colouring, cutting and shampooing, working your way through the apprentice.
Your duties will vary from day to day with the employer but throughout your learning process you will work closely with a qualified stylist from Bolts Hair who will support you in your learning. The successful apprentice may also be given the opportunity to attend our training academy for master classes to enhance their skills and gain additional knowledge.
Working Hours: You are required to work 32 hours per week as the salon offers services 6 days a week, therefore you will be required to work on Saturdays, and in return will get a day off in the week. You will also be expected to work one evening per week.
Wages: £112.00 per week, based on a 32 hour week. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.
Holiday: You will be entitled to 28 days holiday, including bank holidays, which will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.
This is a fantastic opportunity to work within a family run barber shop in Credition. Sarah the owner of the shop boosts years of experience and is willing to pass down all of her skills and knowledge to the next generation.
The shop is open minded when it comes to the training programme route the successful applicant will with benefit from in house training with an assessor from Skills Group to support the qualification or if the apprentices would prefer to go into Skills Group’s training academy in Exeter then Sarah is happy to discuss this also as she believes every learner learns differently so she is willing to support their learning journey.

With the experience and the skills you have gained, you can use these to maximise the opportunities to further your career at the end of your apprenticeship programme. The successful applicant could also look at progressing onto a advanced barbering qualification.
You will need to have good conversation skills, the ability to speak to all new and old customers and a good people person.
The successful candidates needs to be familiar with current trends within the hair, barbering and fashion industry. You will need to be highly motivated and enthusiastic about hairdressing and barbering with a friendly personality, to interact efficiently with customers and colleagues. You must be motivated and passionate to undertake this exciting opportunity, and progress in your chosen career.
GCSE grades A-E is desired, but not a requirement. An advantage would be having a NVQ Level 1 Barbering.
The NVQ Apprenticeship in Barbering consists of:
*Level 2 Qualification in Barbering
*Functional Skills in English
*Functional Skills in Maths
*Emergency First Aid
*Certificate in Health and Safety
*Internet Safety and Safeguarding
All aspects of the qualification will be delivered on-site and you will have regular visits every 2 to 4 weeks from your designated assessor from Skills Group, who will monitor your progression throughout your apprenticeship.
