Shape Hair Salon are looking to take on an apprentice based in Efford.
The Apprentice’s Role
Throughout your apprenticeship, duties will include booking appointments and dealing with telephone enquiries. Along with this, you will be shampooing, conditioning, styling and drying hair.
You will also be assisting stylists in ensuring that all clients are given the highest levels of customer service whilst work closely with the stylists to learn the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to start your career in hairdressing.
Once you have mastered the basic skills you will learn the other areas of hairdressing such as mixing and applying hair colouring. You will also have the option to learn about promoting products, perming and working with different hair types.
Working Hours: The successful candidate will be working between 30 and 40 hours per week, over 5 days, between Tuesday – Saturday.
Wages: £140.00 per week. Any additional hours worked above 40 hours per week will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage, depending on age.
Holiday: You will be entitled to 28 days holiday, including bank holidays, which will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

This is the first time Shape have taken on an apprentice through Skills Group so this is a great opportunity to make your mark on this new employer.
Once having completed the level 2 qualification, there will be an opportunity to work towards an advanced level 3 to further enhance your skills.
The ideal candidate must be friendly and approachable, have excellent communication skills and be able to work well in a team. You will also be able to portray a positive friendly attitude to customers at all times.
Candidates will need to be enthusiastic about training, have a creative flair and a genuine passion for the hairdressing industry. Building good relationships with clients is a vital part of a successful salon so excellent interpersonal skills are required.
Excellent communication skills, high standards of hygiene and appearance and a keen team player are essential for any salon apprentice and you will learn how to demonstrate this consistently to ensure that you promote a positive image at all times.
GCSE grades A-E is desired but not a requirement.

Some aspects of the qualification will be delivered on-site and you will have regular visits every 2 to 4 weeks from your designated assessor from Skills Group, who will monitor your progression throughout your apprenticeship.
As part of your apprenticeship you will be expected to attend college one day per week, where you will improve upon your knowledge and practical skills.
As an additional qualification, Skills Group will help you achieve your Emergency First Aid and Health and Safety Certificate, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
