Toni & Guy Hair salon are looking for a salon junior to join their friendly team in Plymouth.
The Apprentice’s Role
You will be assisting stylists in ensuring that all clients are given the highest levels of customer service with special attention to comfort and friendliness. You will also generate and promote a professional working atmosphere and assist stylists in advising clients regarding all aspects of services available, including products, tools and equipment available for retail purchase. You will also make sure that work stations are kept clean and tidy at all times.
You will also be involved in booking appointments, shampooing, conditioning, drying and styling hair, and mixing and applying hair colouring. You will study hairdressing topics such as hair and skin testing, the effects of chemicals on hair and skin, and the principles of hair colour selection – there’s also the option to learn about promoting products, perming, and working with different hair types.
You will also be required to attend college sessions weekly to undertake additional training which will enhancing your knowledge and develop your skills.
Working Hours: You will be working 40 hours per week, Tuesday – Saturday. You will also be expected to attend night school with the employer, one night per week.
Wages: £140.00 per week, based on a 40 hour week. Any overtime above the 40 hours per week, will be paid at the appropriate national minimum wage depending on age.
Holiday: 28 days holiday entitlement (including bank holidays) will be paid each year, during the course of your apprenticeship.

Toni & Guy strongly believes in the apprenticeship programme and the opportunities this brings, therefore there will be an opportunity to either progress onto the level 2 in barbering or the advanced level 3 in hairdressing on completion of your apprenticeship.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, be able to work well in a team, and to be able to portray a positive friendly attitude to customers at all times.
Candidates will need to be enthusiastic about training, have a creative flair and a genuine passion for the Hairdressing industry. Building good relationships with clients is a vital part of a successful salon so excellent interpersonal skills are required.
Excellent communication, high standards of hygiene, appearance and a keen team player are essential for any salon apprentice. You will learn how to demonstrate this consistently to ensure that you promote a positive image at all times.

All aspects of the qualification will be delivered on-site and you will have regular visits every 2 to 4 weeks from your designated assessor from Skills Group, who will monitor your progression throughout your apprenticeship.
As an additional qualification, Skills Group will help you achieve your Emergency First Aid and Health and Safety Certificate, along with Internet Safety and Safeguarding.
We recognise that salons are becoming more reliant on technology to communicate with their clients, and to promote their salon services, styling team and latest offers, and our apprenticeship training includes an ICT element that enables learners to develop their skills to use social networks in a safe and professional way.
