School-leavers eager to carve out a career are invited to try their hand at a range of skilled trades as part of an apprenticeship open day.
Skills Group, a local apprenticeship training provider, is running the free event to offer youngsters the chance to have a go at a range of careers from construction and hairdressing, to sport and leisure and business.
The open day, which coincides with National Apprenticeship Week 2016, will be held at Skills Group’s training centre in Western Wood Way, Langage, Plympton from 10am to 1pm on Saturday, March 19.
Current apprentices, specialist trainers and career advisors will be on hand to provide information and advice to anyone interested in learning more about how an apprenticeship could work for them.
Mandy Kerslake, Skills Group’s Apprenticeship Manager, said: “Our open day is a great way to find out more about apprenticeships and the career opportunities they can lead to. We invite anyone thinking about their future career – whether they are looking for opportunities now or for after their exams this summer, we will help them explore the range of apprenticeships and full-time vocational courses Skills Group offers.
“Come and try your hand at a range of specialist skills and get first-hand experience of the different construction trades, test yourself with our sports and leisure training, and take part in our business challenge. You can meet our dedicated trainers and career advisors, and hear from some of our apprentices what it is really like to ‘get paid to learn a trade’.
“At Skills Group we currently have over 180 apprenticeship vacancies with top local employers across Devon and Cornwall – getting on the career ladder is a lot easier than people may think!”
Parents interested in finding out more about apprenticeships as a successful career path for their children are also invited to come along and speak to advisors.
